Still Waters
Like many, I am constantly drawn to the sea, or any body of water, not just for artistic purposes but mental well being! I enjoy the power of the sea when its putting us in our place, but I find the benign weather and water surface equally compelling. These are often associated with sunny days, where the landscape photographer is told the light is too harsh and lacks contrast. But it is just our cameras not liking that. It takes a bit more effort and different techniques to find compositions and light, but they can be found. What I search for is the simplicity of few colours, diffuse light and shape / texture. The tranquility often allows you to see the beauty of water and its impact on the land that is disguised by the overwhelming dynamism of stormy weather or golden hour light.
